Marvel Worldwide Inc., more commonly known as Marvel Comics or simply Marvel, is a subdivision of Marvel Entertainment and one of the main American publishing houses of comics. Martin Goodman founded the company in 1938 to enjoy the nascent craze for comics. The first issue of his first comic, Marvel Comics, is a surprise success that allows the company to last. When in 1940, Captain America Comics is published, it is also acclaimed by readers. The Timely publishing house that publishes Marvel develops and is a very profitable company during the 1940s and 1950 although Martin Goodman has for politics to only follow the modes. But in 1956, Goodman commits the mistake of entrusting the distribution of his comics to American News Company who ceases his activities six months later.
